HAIL MY GENERATION
[Based on “Our Generation” by Ayodeji]
Hail my generation!
Salute the good, the bad and the ugly.
Respect them that are crude and rude,
And them that are good and true,
Salute them, ‘cause they have it all in one.
Hail my generation!
They know what they want from life,
Yet they are confused by what life gives.
They are a bunch of intelligent creatives,
Yet they hold on to fetish beliefs.
Hail my generation!
They are lazy as they are hardworking,
Weak as they are strong;
They are sinners as they are saints,
Demons as they are angels.
Hail my generation!
The true definition of loyalty, you’ll find in them,
The true meaning of betrayal, they’ll help you see;
The true meaning of love, they’ll help you feel,
The true meaning of heartbreak, they’ll help you hear.
Hail my generation!
The ones who choose to stand for what’s right,
And also the ones who paint wrong right.
The ones who are righteous in sin,
And the ones who ignore the truth for fun.
Hail my generation!
Their potential they see but can’t hold,
Their wrongs they know but can’t correct.
Benevolent, magnanimous, pacific,
Yet, selfish, greedy, belligerent.
Hail my generation!
A gift to the world, and a curse.
A means to an end, and an origin.
The bridge that’s to sustain humanity,
And also the link that’ll make humanity history.
Hail my generation! So they might see before they cry.
