A LESSON FROM THE PAST
A LESSON FROM THE PAST
It was a day like no other.
A woman in her prime
Consumed by extreme pain and joy.
Pain for she was in labour;
Joy for her first child was making his way into the world,
Breaking from the cocoon of her flesh,
From the protection and feeding of her bosom.
He was coming to experience the world.
Just as the pain reached its climax,
A cry was heard,
And the pain was replaced by joy like no other;
For a child had been brought forth by her.
And yet a journey began for the child;
He'd stepped into the world
Where there was nothing but endless struggle for survival,
Where he'd have to fight against man and nature to live,
Where nothing came free but must be attained by merit and will.
And so his journey began.
Days turned into months, and months into years.
The boy experienced life under the guidance of his parents.
He lived under them for 8 years and was once again separated;
Separated not by nature but by will.
For the separation was to cause him to experience more,
Learn more, and develop more.
The boy grew in a harsh environment,
Honing his will power and increasing his wisdom,
Yet he felt incomplete.
He felt he was lacking something,
Something very essential, crucial and pivotal for him.
“What could this be?” He asked himself.
And the answer came after years of experience;
It was the filial love of a parent.
The joy from interacting with them,
Living with them,
And running errands for them.
But life is cruel;
Nothing in life is perfect.
From a child to a teen,
And from a teen to a youth;
Today a young man in his prime
Looks back to the past and sees a dream.
With his life lived in the hustle and bustle for survival,
All he saw was the race for abidance.
He feels loss now, for he has indeed lost;
He lost the joy of learning from his parents,
The joy of serving them,
The joy that comes with every moment spent with them.
Now he sees life as a struggle.
However, in his eyes there’s a glint of wisdom;
One obtained only from experience,
One that would accompany him for the rest of his life.
For the life he's lived has thought him great lessons.
It has brought to him the principle of survival,
The will to never give up but push on.
That is the result of his life of hardwork.
My dear friend,
Life is not a race but a journey;
A journey which may be filled with roses and honey,
Or thorns and horns.
But in every moment, there’s joy.
Live your life and enjoy each moment that comes with it;
For that is true living.
