SPRINT

Will you sit still

And let me tell you a story?

While I braid your hair

I'll tell you of my life,

Of the lies I've been told

And the many ones I'm living.

I'll tell you of my silent tears

Shadowed with my makeup

And the most perfect smile.

I'll tell you of my hideous scars

Hidden underneath my fancy dresses.

I can also tell you of my favorite knife

And how many times it has helped

To release the tension in my blood.

I'll tell you of how I feed my depraved soul

With the best of my tears,

With the many voices in my head,

And how they never seem to stop.

I'll tell you why I'd rather not talk

And let the world misunderstand my intentions;

Why I'd rather not scream out my pains

And openly lament my agony.

If you stay for a little while longer,

I'll tell you of my fragile heart

Surrounded by the most painful thorns.

I'll tell you how my heart breaks

When I'm called a strong woman.

I'll tell you of how much my weakness

Is hidden in my smile.

If you want,

I'll show you my scribblings.

I'll show you my letters of journeys

That I've never taken.

If I cannot do anything else,

I can tell you of how tired I am

Of being the strong one.
